Our Mission
Family members and friends of the 100 cherished people who died as a direct result of the Station Fire founded the Station Fire Memorial Foundation in June 2003. Our purpose is to ensure that our loved ones would receive a proper memorial upon the sacred ground where their lives were so tragically cut short.
The Station Fire Memorial Foundation procured the land known as the Station Site on September 28, 2012 through a gracious donation. It is our intent that the Foundation not only build but maintain the Memorial site and as such, fundraising is expected to be long-term. The Foundation encourages maximum participation by affected Family members and Survivors of the tragedy. The Station Fire Memorial Foundation is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) charitable organization and as such donations are tax deductible in accordance with IRS rules.
The following has been adapted from the book “The Circus Fire” by Stewart O’Nan.
These words have come to sum up our mission: “To be lost and forgotten – to be abandoned – is a shared and terrible fear, just as our fondest hope as we grow older is that we might leave some part of us behind in the hearts of those we love and in that way live on. We may not be able to change what has been but we certainly can change what is. Help us to give the victims the only gift within our power, a gift we wish desperately for our loved ones, a gift we all want . . . TO BE REMEMBERED.”
